Trina Garland's Suitcase

Trina Garland's Suitcase: Object Post 34

Source? It was a family case which Trina was using
Significance? The clothes is contained complicated Cousin Mara’s stay at the writers’ festival
Fate? It’s probably back with Trina or Deb, her mother
Author’s inspiration? I inherited some interesting clothes from my cousins.
First appearance? In Mara’s Case

Mara Payne found herself reluctantly taking part in a writers’ conference after someone let the organisers down. Reclusive, awkward and the ugly duckling in a family of flamboyant swans, Mara wore whatever was comfortable and unremarkable.
She packed her case and departed for her stay in the porridge-coloured motel.
When she opened the case to dress for her panel appearance the next day, she was horrified to discover clothing more suited to her glossy cousin Trina.
Having to dress in a wardrobe far removed from her own had a curious effect on Mara as an alter ego apparently took over the microphone…
It later devolved that Mara’s Case was actually Trina’s Case: both cousins owned a piece of the old family luggage and Trina’s helpful donation to her cousin’s wardrobe had come along at just the wrong time. Or maybe not. Mara was never too sure about that.

Trina’s suitcase appears in In Mara’s Case. Trina herself shows up in that book, and in the sequel, Kissing Cousins.

ABOUT THE BLOG

Sally is Sally Odgers; author, anthologist and reader. You can find you way into her maze of websites and blogs via the portal here.(Sally is me, by the way.)

The goal for 2017 was to write a post a day profiling the background behind one of my books; how it came to be written, what it's about, and any things of note that happened along the way. 2017 is well behind us, but I ran out of year before running out of books. As of June 2018 I STILL hadn't run out of books, but many of those still to come are MIA by which I mean I don't have copies and remember little about them. There are more new books in the pipeline, and I'm certainly showcasing those, but in between times, I'm profiling some of my characters, places and objects. Thank you so much to everyone who's come along on this journey so far!
