Tab Merriweather

Tabor "Tab" Merriweather  Character Post 56

Tabor is one of four musically-named brothers, sons of Tom, who is human, and Ryl, who is fay. Tab is the eldest of the four, with his brothers Tango, Tempo and Timbre one year, three years and four years younger. The boys have a band they call 4Ts-Quad, and they play at family occasions, and also for parties. They are all multiply-talented.

Tab and his brothers have been in the habit of considering themselves as a foursome, but recently things have changed. At eighteen, Tab is now technically an adult. He has left school, and stopped eating everything that isn't nailed down. As he moves towards independence, he finds himself hampered by the fact that his brothers, almost his junior selves, are still tied to childhood. They in turn watch him narrowly to see how he deals with matters of the adult world.

To his own surprise, Tab gets involved with a young woman who is four years his senior. Josefa is human, flat-sharing, working in a boutique and doing her best to escape a series of poor choices. She's delighted to educate Tab, but things get awkward when he wants something more permanent than she has to offer. As she puts it, "I'm your practice-girl. I never said I was anything else."

Tab is far more powerful than Josefa will ever be, yet she has the benefits of seniority and is far more streetwise. She also has the right to say no and to stop him in his tracks. Growing up as fast as he can, viewed with envy and fascination by his brothers, cautioned by his parents and cousin and ready for the next step everybody else thinks he shouldn't take, Tab finds life complicated to say the least. One thing he resolves to do is to try his best to negotiate the pitfalls with panache and prove everybody wrong.

Tab and his brothers appear in Floribunda and the Best Men, Sam and the Sylvan and  Sunshower .

ABOUT THE BLOG

Sally is Sally Odgers; author, anthologist and reader. She runs  Prints Charming Books. (Sally is me, by the way, and I am lots of other things too, but these are the relevant ones for now.)

The goal for 2017 was to write a post a day profiling the background behind one of my books; how it came to be written, what it's about, and any things of note that happened along the way. If you're an author, an aspiring author, a reader or just someone who enjoys windows into worlds, you might find this fun. The books are not in any special order, but will be assigned approximate dates, and pictures, where they exist. 2017 is now behind us, but I ran out of year before running out of books. As of February 18th 2018 I STILL haven't run out of books, but many of those still to come are MIA by which I mean I don't have copies and remember little about them. There are more new books to come, and I'll certainly showcase those, but in between times, I'm profiling some of my characters, just for a change. Thank you so much to everyone who's come along on this journey so far!
