Foxie

Foxie  Character Post 54

Foxie is more or less a fox terrier. He was a street dog, living at an empty house in Doggeroo. He ate what he could catch or steal, and after his only possession, an old boot, was lost when someone moved into the house, he tried to make his life bearable by appropriating items belonging to more fortunate dogs. He amassed quite a collection.

He was upset and defensive when the interloper dog who'd moved into the house tracked him down and wanted his blanket back. Sure he was going to lose another home Foxie was dissolving into self-pity, but the interloper offered him a way out. All he needed to do was to pretend to be a nice dog, a good dog, a sweet dog... That was a tall order for Foxie, but he succeeded.

Adopted by the woman his new acquaintance called Auntie Tidge, Foxie has reverted to his real personality, greedy, possessive, manipulative, loyal, and loving. Foxie doesn't see this as contradictory, and neither does Auntie Tidge. She adores him and his life is wonderful. The interloper is now his best friend Jack, and Foxie is a proud member of the Jack Pack of Doggeroo. On the other hand, he's still a thief, and he still clings to his old boot. Of late, Foxie has a new role in life. A visit to Polly Smote, the opinionated dachshund, resulted in a litter of pups, one of which is a spotty girl who looks and acts just like Foxie. Spotty is Foxie's little girl, and he has high hopes for her.

Foxie appears in the Jack Russell: Dog Detective series. He's pictured here with Auntie Tidge, drawn by Janine Dawson.

ABOUT THE BLOG

Sally is Sally Odgers; author, anthologist and reader. She runs  Prints Charming Books. (Sally is me, by the way, and I am lots of other things too, but these are the relevant ones for now.)

The goal for 2017 was to write a post a day profiling the background behind one of my books; how it came to be written, what it's about, and any things of note that happened along the way. If you're an author, an aspiring author, a reader or just someone who enjoys windows into worlds, you might find this fun. The books are not in any special order, but will be assigned approximate dates, and pictures, where they exist. 2017 is now behind us, but I ran out of year before running out of books. As of February 18th 2018 I STILL haven't run out of books, but many of those still to come are MIA by which I mean I don't have copies and remember little about them. There are more new books to come, and I'll certainly showcase those, but in between times, I'm profiling some of my characters, just for a change. Thank you so much to everyone who's come along on this journey so far!
