Bartholomeus "Bart" Merriweather

Bartholomeus "Bart" Merriweather  Character Post 53

Bart Merriweather was born in 1964 to Dennis Merriweather and his Dutch wife, Marieke. An only child, Bart took after his tall blonde mother rather than his compact father. He grew into a large, handsome and deceptively placid man. In his twenties, he studied horticulture and spent time as an exchange student in his mother's native country. Bart spoke Dutch and English equally well, and added a few more languages over the years. His time in the Netherlands prompted him to travel more, and he spent a few years backpacking in the northern hemisphere. He learned to sail, and served as crewman on any ship going somewhere interesting.

In the Arctic Circle, he encountered a young woman named Brigitta. He assumed she was Swiss, since she was bilingual in English and Swiss German, but she turned out to be an alpenfee girl. Bart's cousin Tom was courting an equally unusual young woman, so Bart was more accepting of Brigitta than he might have otherwise been.

The couple married, and produced three children.. Now in his fifties, Bart is as placidly content as he has always been. He and Brigitta own a yacht called Tulpenmanie in which they travel or simply go to ground. Now and then, Bart takes on a job for Tulpenmanie. His original crewman was unreliable, so, on the advice of an acquaintance, he now employs a young man named Zach Rowan.

Bart's story begins in The Kissing Ring and continues in the upcoming Man Overboard.

ABOUT THE BLOG

Sally is Sally Odgers; author, anthologist and reader. She runs  Prints Charming Books. (Sally is me, by the way, and I am lots of other things too, but these are the relevant ones for now.)

The goal for 2017 was to write a post a day profiling the background behind one of my books; how it came to be written, what it's about, and any things of note that happened along the way. If you're an author, an aspiring author, a reader or just someone who enjoys windows into worlds, you might find this fun. The books are not in any special order, but will be assigned approximate dates, and pictures, where they exist. 2017 is now behind us, but I ran out of year before running out of books. As of February 18th 2018 I STILL haven't run out of books, but many of those still to come are MIA by which I mean I don't have copies and remember little about them. There are more new books to come, and I'll certainly showcase those, but in between times, I'm profiling some of my characters, just for a change. Thank you so much to everyone who's come along on this journey so far!
