Pen Swan

Pen Swan  Character Post 34

Pen Swan is quite aware of the peculiarity in her name, but in fact she quite likes it. In her thirties, she is married to Ben and happily self-employed as a children's book illustrator. The only fly in Pen's ointment is that she and Ben haven't had children and as time goes by, he seems increasingly uninterested in trying for a family.
Pen's world shatters when she loses Ben. She turns in on herself, carrying on with her work but doing little else. Her social life has shrunk to necessary grocery shopping and trips to the post office, but Pen can't seem to drag herself out of her despondency. Now into her forties, she still hasn't made a move to change her circumstances when her friend Skye invites her for a girls' night out. Pen accepts, because Skye is a dressmaker, and she needs something suitable to wear to a wedding she's been invited to attend as official artist. She's mildly put out to find another woman added to the party, but then Skye and her friend come up with a suggestion that's as alarming as it is outrageous. Pen has a choice; should she remain in her grey-hued rut or take a chance on... well, what is it, exactly, that Skye and her friend Ryl have in mind? Pen has her doubts but she decides at the very least she's going to get a cat!

Pen appears in Pen and Ink, and also in Floribunda and the Best Men.

ABOUT THE BLOG

Sally is Sally Odgers; author, anthologist and reader. She runs  Prints Charming Books. (Sally is me, by the way, and I am lots of other things too, but these are the relevant ones for now.)

The goal for 2017 was to write a post a day profiling the background behind one of my books; how it came to be written, what it's about, and any things of note that happened along the way. If you're an author, an aspiring author, a reader or just someone who enjoys windows into worlds, you might find this fun. The books are not in any special order, but will be assigned approximate dates, and pictures, where they exist. 2017 is now behind us, but I ran out of year before running out of books. As of February 18th 2018 I STILL haven't run out of books, but many of those still to come are MIA by which I mean I don't have copies and remember little about them. There are more new books to come, and I'll certainly showcase those, but in between times, I'm profiling some of my characters, just for a change. Thank you so much to everyone who's come along on this journey so far!
