Honeycomb Bakewell

Honeycomb Bakewell  Character Post 31

Honeycomb Bakewell is a peculiarity; a child who barely resembles her parents and who has little in common with them. Her mother Skye is laid-back and placid; a sweet-faced dressmaker. Her father Simon is a small man with a big smile who works as a healer at an alternative clinic. Honey, born in 1990, has eyes like her father, but she is tall, slender and has copious amounts of crinkly brown hair. She is imperious by nature, and wields what her friends come to call the Honey effect, which simply means she almost always gets her own way.
By the time she was ten, she was organising her parents, apparently willing them into signing permission forms and such. She has a habit of pointing her finger at people, who find themselves falling in with her plans. At eighteen, she removed herself from her parents' orbit by taking a job several hours away. There is never any estrangement; Honey simply wants to run her own life. This she does, doing well at her job and running a high-powered critical blog called Honey Mooned. Engaged to an avant garde artist, Honey arranges her wedding herself, and prevails on Skye to make her wedding dress. Everything goes Honey's way until she makes one critical misstep.
To be fair, she wouldn't have made it if she'd had the faintest idea of what she really was.
On the other hand, if she hadn't been so imperious, and distanced herself from her family so soon, she might have known...
In any event, Honey finds herself in a situation where, for the first time ever, she's on the back foot. In typical Honey style she fights back, but it seems her planets are still misaligned. Or something!
Be careful what you wish for.
Honey appears in Pisky Business and is a main character in Honey and the Harvest Hob.

ABOUT THE BLOG

Sally is Sally Odgers; author, anthologist and reader. She runs  Prints Charming Books. (Sally is me, by the way, and I am lots of other things too, but these are the relevant ones for now.)

The goal for 2017 was to write a post a day profiling the background behind one of my books; how it came to be written, what it's about, and any things of note that happened along the way. If you're an author, an aspiring author, a reader or just someone who enjoys windows into worlds, you might find this fun. The books are not in any special order, but will be assigned approximate dates, and pictures, where they exist. 2017 is now behind us, but I ran out of year before running out of books. As of February 18th 2018 I STILL haven't run out of books, but many of those still to come are MIA by which I mean I don't have copies and remember little about them. There are more new books to come, and I'll certainly showcase those, but in between times, I'm profiling some of my characters, just for a change. Thank you so much to everyone who's come along on this journey so far!
