Chas Dark

Chas Dark  Character Post 32

Charles "Chas" Dark is a single dad when we encounter him in the story Tied Up in Tinsel. Back when he was nineteen or so, his big sister's friend Sarah bolted from a toxic relationship and
came looking for her friend for tea and sympathy. She found Chas instead. A little comforting went a long way, and resulted in George, a square-faced child with dark hair and a solemn nature. Sarah and Chas agreed that one error shouldn't lead to another as they had little in common, but Chas was determined to play an active part of George's life. It works wonderfully well. Chas loves being a dad, and George is the best thing that ever happened to him. All is well, in fact, until Sarah marries a man whose son is George's best friend.

Chas steels himself to seeing less of his son, as Sarah now has a ready-made family to offer. He resolves to make the best of the time he does have. He is a solitary, lonely person, self-employed and quiet. When George is with him he goes out and about, but in his non-George times he is mostly on his own.

When he hires rooms in a terrace house to spend time with his son before Christmas, he works hard at not showing how much he'd like to have a Christmas with George. Luckily, George gets the matter in hand and through his innocent intervention, a gorgeous girl named Flick knocks on Chas's door.

Life is never going to be the same for Chas after that. It's going to be a whole lot better.

ABOUT THE BLOG

Sally is Sally Odgers; author, anthologist and reader. She runs  Prints Charming Books. (Sally is me, by the way, and I am lots of other things too, but these are the relevant ones for now.)

The goal for 2017 was to write a post a day profiling the background behind one of my books; how it came to be written, what it's about, and any things of note that happened along the way. If you're an author, an aspiring author, a reader or just someone who enjoys windows into worlds, you might find this fun. The books are not in any special order, but will be assigned approximate dates, and pictures, where they exist. 2017 is now behind us, but I ran out of year before running out of books. As of February 18th 2018 I STILL haven't run out of books, but many of those still to come are MIA by which I mean I don't have copies and remember little about them. There are more new books to come, and I'll certainly showcase those, but in between times, I'm profiling some of my characters, just for a change. Thank you so much to everyone who's come along on this journey so far!
