At the age of nineteen, Linda's childhood affection for George Pendennis has undergone a sea-change. He had grown increasingly rackety, and had a habit of turning up to set her life upside down at varying intervals. Added to this was Linda's secret resentment of what she perceived as a plodding kind of name. Why, she wondered, had Mary not given her daughter her own stately surname? George had no such problem, as his mother and his unknown father had apparently shared a last name. On the other hand, he had an issue with his first name, and switched to the Cornish form; Jory.
After leaving home at eighteen, Linda moved into a flat in a house owned by a film SFX expert. Because of her clear diction and musical voice, she found work with a limousine company, handling bookings, but later moved on to work as a driver for Vouch-Safe.
Her cool personality makes her perfect for the role, as does her ability to damp down her "presence".
When something unbelievable happened to Jory, Linda went with him to visit their mothers, hoping to pry out some accurate information about their fathers which might explain the situation. What they eventually learned threw Linda's life into an even worse tailspin than Jory's incursions.
Linda appears in Honey and the Harvest Hob and is a main character in Pisky Business.
ABOUT THE BLOG
Sally is Sally Odgers; author, anthologist and reader. She runs Prints Charming Books. (Sally is me, by the way, and I am lots of other things too, but these are the relevant ones for now.)
The goal for 2017 was to write a post a day profiling the background behind one of my books; how it came to be written, what it's about, and any things of note that happened along the way. If you're an author, an aspiring author, a reader or just someone who enjoys windows into worlds, you might find this fun. The books are not in any special order, but will be assigned approximate dates, and pictures, where they exist. 2017 is now behind us, but I ran out of year before running out of books. As of February 18th 2018 I STILL haven't run out of books, but many of those still to come are MIA by which I mean I don't have copies and remember little about them. There are more new books to come, and I'll certainly showcase those, but in between times, I'm profiling some of my characters, just for a change. Thank you so much to everyone who's come along on this journey so far!
