Miss Theresa "Tidge" Russell

Miss Theresa "Tidge" Russell  Character Post 38

Tidge Russell is a lady of middle years and a comfortable habit. She is the aunt of Sergeant Russell, and  just everyone else in Doggeroo also calls her "Auntie Tidge". Tidge loves her nephew dearly, and considers she just about brought him up. When Sarge and his dog Jack get transferred from the city force to the country town of Doggeroo, Tidge is bereft for a few minutes. Then she comes up with a brilliant idea. She'll sell up and retire to Doggeroo herself. This she does, arriving quite soon after Sarge and Jack have settled in the police house.
Tidge likes her independence and understands her nephew likes his, so she purchases a cottage not far from Sarge and moves in. She immediately sets to work to infiltrate herself into the town. She's soon deeply embroiled in everything from the school fete to the church flowers and all the women's groups such as the CWA. Because Tidge is as practical as she is kindly, she is welcomed with literally opened arms by the other ladies. She's a hard worker, a good cook and her cheerful approach to life means she soon a valued community member.
She adopts the street dog, Foxie, and addresses his health and manners. He is soon devoted to her... and even puts up with being called Foxie Woxie. She doesn't forget Jack though, and happily provides her own line of healthy treats for both dogs. This inspires her to start a small business called Tidge Treats. When Sarge gets engaged to Caterina Smith, Tidge simply expands her love to take in Caterina and her dog Red. Naturally, she is much involved with catering for the wedding.

Auntie Tidge Russell appears in the Jack Russell Dog Detective series. The picture shows Tidge as depicted by Janine Dawson throughout the series.

ABOUT THE BLOG

Sally is Sally Odgers; author, anthologist and reader. She runs  Prints Charming Books. (Sally is me, by the way, and I am lots of other things too, but these are the relevant ones for now.)

The goal for 2017 was to write a post a day profiling the background behind one of my books; how it came to be written, what it's about, and any things of note that happened along the way. If you're an author, an aspiring author, a reader or just someone who enjoys windows into worlds, you might find this fun. The books are not in any special order, but will be assigned approximate dates, and pictures, where they exist. 2017 is now behind us, but I ran out of year before running out of books. As of February 18th 2018 I STILL haven't run out of books, but many of those still to come are MIA by which I mean I don't have copies and remember little about them. There are more new books to come, and I'll certainly showcase those, but in between times, I'm profiling some of my characters, just for a change. Thank you so much to everyone who's come along on this journey so far!
