We named Magnus Claw'd and Higgins after Magnum and Higgins in the '80s show Magnum PI, just for fun. We were hoping to do a spin-off series starring Magnus and Higgins, but the publisher preferred another dog series instead. The title came about because Cranky Paws had already been renamed "The Cat's Tale" for the UK market, so we thought we might as well preempt the problem of different names for the same story. The Kitten's Tale is one of our favourites.
