Blinky Bill Breaks the Drought

Blinky Bill Breaks the Drought  1994 Post 307

Blinky Bill Breaks the Drought is a hardback picture book I wrote from an episode of the Blinky Bill series. I'm pretty sure I wrote the episode storyline-script as well. Blinky uses a trick Tom Sawyer employed to dupe Flap and Splodge into doing a job for him. It involves water, and soon the gang and Wombo are helping Mrs Rabbit with a new carrot patch. Danny Dingo pulls a swift one by stealing Mrs Rabbit's carrots and then selling them back to her, and then he and Daisy employ Flap to dig them a dam, which effectively diverts the creek. Greenpatch (and the rabbits' garden) is dry so it's up to Blinky and co to find out what's causing the drought and put a stop to it. These books are much longer than the average modern picture book, because they had to contain the stories from scripts which were, as I recall, something over twenty minutes.

ABOUT THE BLOG

Sally is Sally Odgers; author, manuscript assessor, editor, anthologist and reader. She runs http://www.affordablemanuscriptassessments.com and Prints Charming Books. (Sally is me, by the way, and I am lots of other things too, but these are the relevant ones for now.)

The goal for 2017 is to write a post a day profiling the background behind one of my books; how it came to be written, what it's about, and any things of note that happened along the way. If you're an author, an aspiring author, a reader or just someone who enjoys windows into worlds, you might find this fun. The books are not in any special order, but will be assigned approximate dates, and pictures, where they exist. If you enjoyed a post, or want to ask about any of my books or my manuscript assessment service.
