Trina Garland

Trina Garland  Character Post 58

Trina Garland is one of a mob of mixed cousins. They all have their "place" in the family, and Trina is well aware hers is as the designated barbie-doll-ditz. Trina is slim, fair and fashionable, and given to asking obvious questions and trying to improve her cousin Mara ("the scruffy eccentric one"). Her mother Deb finds her baffling but entertaining, and sometimes amuses herself by ticking off Trina's boyfriends on her fingers.
We first see Trina through Mara's eyes (in In Mara's Case), and Mara writes her off as a hopeless airhead. Later, we see Trina through her own eyes in her own book (Kissing Cousins), and learn she's not really like that at all. Much of her ditziness is perceived because of the way she looks and dresses, and some of it is defensiveness. Inside Trina is someone who would love to settle down, but who seems to pick poor partners. She has a real doozy in Trevor, who is now stalking her. Trina flees, with her mother's help, and spends time in the country where she discovers herself away from all the problems she's gathered in the city. Once recovered, she has to make a decision to return home and take better control of her life as it is, or whether to start fresh elsewhere.

ABOUT THE BLOG

Sally is Sally Odgers; author, anthologist and reader. She runs  Prints Charming Books. (Sally is me, by the way, and I am lots of other things too, but these are the relevant ones for now.)

The goal for 2017 was to write a post a day profiling the background behind one of my books; how it came to be written, what it's about, and any things of note that happened along the way. If you're an author, an aspiring author, a reader or just someone who enjoys windows into worlds, you might find this fun. The books are not in any special order, but will be assigned approximate dates, and pictures, where they exist. 2017 is now behind us, but I ran out of year before running out of books. As of February 18th 2018 I STILL haven't run out of books, but many of those still to come are MIA by which I mean I don't have copies and remember little about them. There are more new books to come, and I'll certainly showcase those, but in between times, I'm profiling some of my characters, just for a change. Thank you so much to everyone who's come along on this journey so far!
