Dominic Grant

Dominic Grant  Character Post 48

Dominic Grant is a quiet island in the centre of a lively mixed family. He and his elder sister Holly were born to Leanne and Patrick Grant, but they separated when Dominic was a baby, and since then contact has been sporadic. Leanne is remarried to a widower with a daughter and they have a daughter together, giving Dominic a grand total of three sisters, full, half and step. All three are volatile and assertive, so Dominic drifts along under the radar. He is musical; a pianist and reasonable singer; one of those kids teachers like but feel they never really know.
At fifteen, Dominic gets involved with a school musical play and again finds himself with volatile companions. He's pleased to work alongside Helen, who is as quiet as he is, and who, with her blonde hair and blue eyes, looks far more like him than his real sisters do. He and Helen become romantic friends, but when he makes a decision that favours the integrity of the play over his girlfriend's wishes things go downhill.
There is far more drama involved with bringing the play to life than Dominic would like, but he does enjoy the chance to extend his musical range. Then his father reappears on the scene. With his mum's encouragement, Dominic spends some time with Pat Grant and is both annoyed and bewildered to recognise a great deal of himself in his quiet, musical, conflict-hating dad.

Dominic appears in The Magician's Box, Another Good Friend and All the Sea Between. The picture shows him typically in the background.

ABOUT THE BLOG

Sally is Sally Odgers; author, anthologist and reader. She runs  Prints Charming Books. (Sally is me, by the way, and I am lots of other things too, but these are the relevant ones for now.)

The goal for 2017 was to write a post a day profiling the background behind one of my books; how it came to be written, what it's about, and any things of note that happened along the way. If you're an author, an aspiring author, a reader or just someone who enjoys windows into worlds, you might find this fun. The books are not in any special order, but will be assigned approximate dates, and pictures, where they exist. 2017 is now behind us, but I ran out of year before running out of books. As of February 18th 2018 I STILL haven't run out of books, but many of those still to come are MIA by which I mean I don't have copies and remember little about them. There are more new books to come, and I'll certainly showcase those, but in between times, I'm profiling some of my characters, just for a change. Thank you so much to everyone who's come along on this journey so far!
